Preschool
Children join our preschool at the age of 5. In the Hungarian system, this is the equivalent of the last year of kindergarten, the so-called ‘nagycsoport’ although our system’s program is different from it. It is the children who continue their studies in our higher year groups who benefit the most from IPS preschool due to being able to carry on with the IPC program and their English language studies. However, families choosing to educate their child in mainstream Hungarian schools often opt to spend the preschool year in Szeged IPS to ensure their child’s knowledge of English and skills are set on solid foundations.
Assessments
Children are not graded in preschool but get a written assessment of their achievement and progress in the form of report cards twice a year. Children’s DIFER test results, which tests are done twice a year, form a part of their overall results.
Subjects taught:
- English
English teaching involves the teaching of Literacy and communication skills. Although children do not learn to read and write in preschool, they do learn to recognise and write the capital letters of the English alphabet. All subjects with the exception of Preparatory are taught in English, allowing a strong emphasis to be placed on the development of vocabulary, grammar and communication skills.
- IPC
IPC is an internationally recognized educational program, which uses project pedagogical approach to teach. Children begin their IPC studies in preschool with Milepost 1 covering all primary subjects such as Art, Design, Technology and Innovation, Geography, Health and Wellbeing, History, ICT and Computing, International, Music, P.E., Science.
- Preparatory
Preparatory focus on the children’s skills and abilities which are essential for school. The development of hand-eye coordination, mathematical and logical skills happens through diverse themes and methods. These lessons and activities are in both English and Hungarian, to ensure that children understand it.
- P.E.
Exercise is also very important, they use the school's gym 2-3 times a week.
Extra-curricular Clubs
Preschoolers are given plenty of time for free play outdoors during the day and a range of extra-curricular clubs to choose from. In this year they can choose chess, football and multisport.
Teachers
Our dedicated preschool teachers are Csanád and Ildikó. Both are huge favourites of the kids; teachers and parents know exactly why.
