Where Do Our Students Go After Grade 8?

Where Do Our Students Go After Grade 8?

One of the questions we are asked most often by prospective families is:

"What happens after Grade 8?"

At Szeged International Primary School, we believe that completing primary education is not the end of a journey—it is the beginning of many exciting possibilities. Whether our students choose to continue their education in Hungary or abroad, our goal is the same: to ensure they are prepared, confident, and ready for the future.

Preparing Students for Success in Hungary and Beyond

Szeged IPS is unique in that it combines an international education with the requirements of the Hungarian educational system. As a result, our students have the flexibility to pursue a wide range of secondary education pathways.

For Hungarian families, this means that children can seamlessly transition to Hungarian secondary schools. For international families, it means access to international schools, IB programmes, and educational opportunities around the world.

Supporting Hungarian Students

Beginning in Grade 7, we provide additional support to students who plan to continue their studies within the Hungarian education system.

Our programme includes:

  • Mathematics in Hungarian

  • Hungarian Language and Literature support

  • Secondary school entrance exam preparation

  • English language examination preparation

This ensures that our students are well prepared for the Hungarian admissions process while continuing to benefit from an English-speaking, internationally minded learning environment.

Over the years, our graduates have continued their studies at highly regarded secondary schools, and we are incredibly proud of their achievements. Their success is a testament to their hard work, the support of their families, and the dedication of our teaching staff.

Opportunities for International Families

For our international students, Grade 8 opens doors to a variety of pathways.

Depending on their family's plans, our students may continue their education at:

  • International secondary schools in Hungary

  • International schools across Europe

  • British and American high schools

  • IB (International Baccalaureate) programmes

  • Secondary schools in their home countries

The strong English language skills, adaptability, and international perspective developed at Szeged IPS help our students transition confidently into new educational environments around the world.

Building Educational Pathways

At Szeged IPS, we believe in creating opportunities beyond the classroom.

We are proud of our strategic partnership with the University of Szeged, which supports our shared vision of creating an internationally oriented educational pathway—from early childhood education all the way to doctoral studies.

We also maintain close professional connections with the SZTE Báthory István Gyakorló Gimnázium és Általános Iskola. The school offers an English bilingual programme in Grades 9 and 10, followed by the internationally recognized IB Diploma Programme from Grade 11 onwards—the first programme of its kind in Southern Hungary.

This pathway provides an excellent opportunity for students who wish to continue their studies in an international environment while remaining in Szeged.

International students graduating from Szeged IPS may also participate in a separate admissions process, which takes into consideration their educational background and English language proficiency.

More Than Academic Achievement

At Szeged IPS, we are proud not only of where our students go, but of who they become.

Our graduates leave us as confident, compassionate, and curious young people. They are equipped with the academic knowledge, language skills, and resilience needed to succeed in an increasingly interconnected world.

Some will continue their studies at prestigious Hungarian secondary schools. Others will pursue international opportunities, IB programmes, or return to their home countries. Each student's path is unique—and we are honored to be part of their story.

No matter where they go next, they will always remain part of the Szeged IPS family.

And while we celebrate the schools they attend after Grade 8, we are even prouder of the people they become.
