Overview
"Learn how to learn, love to learn, and live to keep learning"
Welcome to the renewed website of the Szeged International Primary School!
As an introduction, we’d like to give you a brief overview of our school, which was founded in 2017 by the Krisztina Kalocsai Foundation (formerly known as the Smiling Face Foundation). Since July 2023, the school has been operated by the Szeged International Education Center Nonprofit LLC.
Szeged International Primary School (Szeged IPS) is among the few institutions in Hungary that follow internationally recognized, theme-based curricula developed by the International Curriculum Association, primarily using project-based educational methods.
Our school implements the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) and International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC), both used in hundreds of schools around the world. In parallel, we also meet the requirements of the Hungarian National Core Curriculum (NAT).
Hungarian language and literature are taught using textbooks from Mozaik Publishing, fully aligned with the Hungarian curriculum, which ensures a smooth transition into public schools if needed.
All other subjects—except for Hungarian language and literature—are taught in English, and the learning process is individually tailored to each student. Our school welcomes children from the age of 5, as we also operate a preschool group, where children are introduced to IPC in a playful and developmentally appropriate way. The IPC curriculum is used up to grade 5, while students in grade 6 and above transition to the IMYC, a theme-based, collaborative program designed for students aged 12–14.
We have one class per grade, with an average class size of 8 students and a maximum of 15 students per class.
A key feature of our school is that students receive an international English-language certificate.
We welcome students from 7:45 AM.
Classes run from 8:50 AM to 3:00 PM, with the last lesson for lower grades being study hall. Between 3:00 and 5:00 PM, students can take part in afternoon enrichment programs, including extracurricular activities and high school exam preparation.
Our students have the opportunity to engage in music, visual arts, and sports during the afternoon sessions. In addition to English, our school also offers Chinese and French as foreign languages.
We have a small playground in the inner courtyard and a larger playground in front of the building, providing excellent opportunities for play. A gymnasium is also available to support physical activity.
Our institution strives to provide a learning environment where students not only learn how to learn, but also learn to enjoy learning and are motivated to believe that learning is a lifelong journey.
